The Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour was held on 13 March 2011.

Our Drainmen North members entered the 34th annual Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour which is the world’s largest timed cycling event. The event started in the City Centre then the route took its way down the Blue Route leading into Simonstown then turning at Smitswinkel and heading back along the coastline before the steady climb up Chapman’s Peak and finally the short, steep hill of Suikerbossie. The Downhill to the finish in Green Point is the final adrenaline rush for cyclists for the day and we assure our fans and readers - this was an adrenaline rush.

There are 16 refreshment stations and 6 medical points along the route to make sure cyclists stay hydrated and safe and our Drainmen Team appreciated this greatly! This great cycle event,is a non-profit event and all proceeds go to 2 charities namely “The Pedal Power Association”and “The Rotary Club of Claremont”.

The Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour was entered and enjoyed by our participants from Drainmen North and we were proud to be able to be a part of this charity run. Our Drainmen participants had not much time away from work to become ‘bike fit’ for the event but never the less did very well over all.  After an awesome yet strain full riding course our team finished the race. The race took much determination through the tough times when it seemed like the Drainmen Team had hit a wall in the fitness category but of course Drainmen never backs down from a challenge!

With team work and encouragement the Drainmen North Team made the course, the journey was a long one but the scenery and the supporters made it worthwhile, of course the ending did too, the satisfaction of finishing the race with the Drainmen team!J Having had the Drainmen gazebo(provided some shade for our supporters to enjoy) up and the Drainmen flags near the end of the race where all supporters watched us from.  Supporters were a great help for that final push to the finish and we thank all our supporters for the day. We were proud to have representation from Drainmen Services at this race and of course we thank Drainmen for yet another amazing experience.

35 000 cyclists took place in the 110km race which was part of the 2011 Lifecycle Week; “Interest in the Cape Argus PNP Cycle Tour is at an all time high following the participation of Lance Armstrong earlier this year”, Said David Bellairs, CEO of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust.

We are happy that we could attend and participate in this honourable Cycle event; we will surely come for round 2 in 2012 with a bigger group of Drainmen!

Our Drainmen Participants were:Leon Swartz”, “Gavin Griggs” and “Craig Carter”; All the Drainmen participants have been taking part in the Cape Argus Cycle Tour for 7 years now which is a great achievement on their and Drainmen’s behalf!
