Drainmen Team Racing
· Drainmen Team Racing – Killarney Race Track, Cape Town, South Africa.
Race Day 1.
On the 15th of October 2011 the Drainmen Racing Team set out to do two things at the Killarney Oval Track Races, firstly to have a good time with all involved and secondly to win. The time was 6pm and the races were about to begin. The Drainmen supporters all took their seats with the rest of a few thousand in attendance and the anticipation began.
The Drainmen car A 99 started at pole; with much encouragement both from the pit crew and the supporters our driver “Johan Sadie” was ready and full of confidence. The race began at 6PM and the Drainmen car soared around the course keeping in first place. At first we had to fight off every car trying to make a pass which we did successfully; no car had passed us that first race.
By the last lap of the race we had overlapped every car, twice, our driver had a brilliant first race and now that Drainmen had won its first race, we thirsted for another victory. The Drainmen supports cheered and were proud of Drainmen! Even the spectators around us began cheering for Drainmen!
The second race saw our Drainmen car starting fourth from the back and this race was rough with many accidents. Our Drainmen Car Driver used his good skills in reaction timing and managed to avoid every accident; we made our way out of the event without a scratch that day, many cars were taken off the course due to damage, crashes and technical difficulties.
The Third race was still brutal and we had to fight to survive; it was not just a battle now to get a place, it began to be a battle for our own safety. There was much awe from the crowd as we tightly turned corners; every second everyone was on their toes. We made it out without any damage and still had a good place.
We prepared for the final race in our class for that evenings race event; our driver was now more determined and had a feeling he could bring Drainmen to another victory. This race, the whole of the Drainmen Supporters and guest supporters were against the fence as our Driver flew into first place, screaming and shouting, we all cheered because we had a feeling that we had this one in the bag too and indeed we did! Another series of overlapping and excellent driving skills led us to another first place victory!
The night came to an end and we left proud knowing that we had won 2 out of 4 races and came third overall for the night.
We thank our Team Drainmen Racing pit crew for doing such an excellent job on the car and ofcourse Johan the driver in the A99 car.
A special thanks goes out to our Team Drainmen driver “Johan Sadie” and of course the Pit Crew which helped insure that our car would fly across the track.
